A Designer’s Guide to Grumpicon, or: How I Learned to Stop Using Font Icons and Love SVGs
SVG is winning the race when it comes to graphics that scale on the web. Designers and developers are choosing SVG in lieu of icon fonts, raster images, and raster sprites.
Grunticon makes it easy to use HD-ready (retina) vector illustrations, icons, and background images in your web project without the hassles of spotty browser compatibility. The tool processes a set of SVG files, generates PNG fallback images for legacy browsers, and exports a demo page showing how to use the final icons. To start, export SVG files for each of your images, drop those files onto the grumpy animal above, then click the 'Downlode it!" button to grab the files.
Once downloaded, check out preview.html to see a preview of your icons and their class names. To integrate in your site, you can drop the exported files into a folder on your site and paste the contents of grunticon.loader.txt into the head section of your HTML templates.
New! You can now configure things like the file names, class names, and even the colors of the generated assets. Check out the "Grumpiconfig" section.

Il existe bien des façons d’utiliser les icônes SVG en HTML et en CSS, et je ne les ai pas toutes essayées. Ce qui suit correspond à la façon de travailler de la petite équipe front-end de Kaliop. Elle répond à nos besoins, qui comprennent :
Des sites web de communication et de contenu, souvent basés sur de gros CMS, plutôt que des applications full-JavaScript.
Des icônes qui sont souvent de simples icônes monochromes — chacune pouvant être utilisée en différentes couleurs, selon le contexte et les interactions utilisateur — mais possibilité d’avoir des icônes en bichromie.
Compatibilité navigateurs IE9+.
